I’m a novice shooter and want to learn how to run my Glock for potential defensive use. Same for the AR15. I’ve watched the Magpul video series and really was excited about getting some training from Haley & Costa. Now since they’ve gone their separate ways, people have to make a choice. Magpul is offering their pistol course a rock’s throw away from my house this spring! Costa is having a course a couple of hours away this fall (easily drivable, but would have to spring for hotel). Still waiting on Haley to put up his schedule. If I could only do one, I’d sort of prefer Haley, but what about you guys out there with experience? Is Magpul still worthwhile? I can’t likely make it to more than one course this year, so I have to choose. Is Costa’s course worth more than Magpul ? What do you guys think? Thanks!!! niftyvt
10/1/2008 2:06:09 AM There is a reason the Aimpoint Comp M4 has a military contract number. It is built like a tank, mine came with a Flash Kill and a mount with spacer. The mount includes a torque type adjuster built it. You should get the Aimpoint Comp M4 for $600 then that the Aimpoint Comp m4s is out. Only difference is the battery location. I am happy I went with the real deal. It is the best. Is the Aimpoint T-1 a 2 moa like the M4? I would only get a 2 moa as you can get the benefitso f the 4 moa by turning up the illuminationDelton upper and lower, FDE MagPul accessories, collapsable bipod, original carry handle, one MagPul mag and standard mag, soft case, also comes with MagPul sling (not pictured).

It is very common to start with one gun, abandon it, pick up the next and continue. Never have I been to or heard of any match that required you to start with and end with all 3 guns on your person. The only match I had to even start with both long guns on me was Blue Ridge but we didn’t end with both. At the Blue Ridge match a few weeks ago there was a lot of slinging both rifle and shotgun. I spent a lot of time the two weeks prior working out the best way to rifle sling and unsling both weapons. Practice in dry fire beforehand and you’ll figure out a lot. Things to watch for while practicing with slung weapons are keeping a safe muzzle direction, not interfering with other equipment on the belt, ease of slinging and unslinging, not banging into the legs while moving, and keeping the slung weapon from bouncing/swinging while trying to shoot on the move. I tried every different configuration and location of slinging before the match I could think of. I put a coworkers PVS14 behind myAimpoint Comp ML2 and the first 4 clicks worked beautifully w/ the NVG’s. On the first click, I can’t see the dot without the night vision. second2none

NRA-ILA Legal Update- June 2012 Oral Arguments Presented in Illinois Right-to-Carry Case- In perhaps the clearest case in the country addressing the right to bear arms outside the home for self-defense, oral arguments took place June 8 in Chicago, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Shepard v. Madigan involves lead plaintiff Mary Shepard, an Illinois resident and trained gun owner with no criminal record, who is licensed to carry a concealed handgun in both Utah and Florida. Unfortunately, she has no legal way to do so in Illinois as soon as she steps away from her home or place of business. The National Rifle Association is funding this case, and our state affiliate, the Illinois State Rifle Association, is a co-plaintiff on behalf of its members who share Mrs. Shepard’s plight.

Microstamp technology is ineffective for law enforcement Your editorial “Getting down to brass tags” (June 14) left out a few facts that might give your readers a clearer view of the value of adding microstamping technology to pistols as a way of tracing spent shell casings found at crime scenes to a particular handgun. Independent studies by the National Academy of Science, by the University of California at Davis, and by George Krivosta of the American Society of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners concluded the technology is underdeveloped, producing inaccurate results that are easily circumvented, either on purpose or by simple use of the firearm within a few number of rounds fired. Mandates to use this technology come from its sole source inventor who stands to benefit substantially when firearm manufacturers must come to him to learn how to apply microstamping to their products. The cost of $12 per gun comes from advocates of the technology. Firearm manufacturers estimate the cost at around $200 per gun.

Latest Drop in U.S. Murder Rate Will Confound Critics of Self-Defense Laws Giving a positive character to the old expression, “same old stuff,” this week the FBI preliminarily reported that violent crime has dropped yet again – for the 18th time in the last 20 years. According to the report, the estimated annual number of murders dropped 1.9 percent from 2010 to 2011 which, given the increase in the U.S. population during the year, would translate into a drop of between 2.5-3 percent in the per capita rate of murders.

We briefly attended the CloudForce Conference, put on by SalesForce in San Francisco yesterday. The keynote was scheduled for a head-scratching 2 and a half hours.
Keynote was a soporific bunch of nothingness. Lots of fluffy, self-congratulatory, banal superlatives. While it was clearly an attempt to mimic the Jobs lead Apple product announcements, the result was akin to the pain of watching a 150 minute infomercial targeted at 5 year-olds. It demonstrated a tin-eared lack of respect for the time and intelligence of the audience.
Ironically, one presenter gleefully announced that it was now possible to demonstrate the value of a new SalesForce product to a prospect in 2 and a half minutes, then proceeded to spend 25 minutes explaining it. At that point we ran for the exits.

Yet the difference in cost of the BEAR Elite uppers, for example, between the ones with sights and the ones without is $123.04. So, are the sights they are selling something other than the “regular” polymer Magpul sights? Or are they just hoping people are willing to pay $30-40 for the convenience of getting them already installed on the gun (a process that actually takes about 2 minutes – for a noob)? I had aAimpoint Comp ML2 and like you said the first three clicks are virtually impossible to see even in pitch black environment. I put a coworkers PVS14 behind myAimpoint Comp ML2 and the first 4 clicks worked beautifully w/ the NVG’s. On the first click, I can’t see the dot without the night vision. second2none
