Rifle Slings

4/5/2012 1:17:55 PM Well, I will give you a more useful answer than saying “if it isn’t OEM, it’s stupid” or quoting a movie… The factory Melonite coating is very durable and IMHO in the same class as Nickle Boron. I would not have your Glock Accessories coated unless the finish is starting to wear through/off somehow. OTOH, if you do have to get a gun recoated, while melonite is very nice, it is too thick to have added as an aftermarket coating most of the time. Nickle Boron is very thin. The slick nature of NiB is not a huge benefit IMHO because I want oil on my action (even if NiB has shown to function well without for certain periods of time) and that finish causes most lubes to wick off the gun over a period of time; especially when it’s warm out. Not to mention it’s shiny. If it’s just a range gun, I wouldn’t worry about it. But then again, I wouldn’t worry about slide wear either. IMHO, NiB belongs as an option on rifle bolts and bolt carriers, etc. and melonite belongs on slide, receiver and barrel exteriors. I personally would instead replace the barrel for a properly chambered and properly rifled one. That way you can reload if you so choose, or at least sell/recycle your brass. That, or get night glcok sights if you haven’t any. m4nut
